Lawrence Potter, MD

Dr. Potter is originally a native of Mississippi. He moved with his family to Winston-Salem, NC in high school and graduated from R.J. Reynolds in 1990. After high school, he attended the University of Mississippi and majored in English, receiving his B.A. in 1994. He returned to Winston-Salem to attend the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, which became the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, prior to his graduation in 1998.

Following an internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Dr. Potter completed tours as a hyperbaric medical officer and flight surgeon prior to returning to residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. Dr. Potter was assigned as staff pediatrician after residency at Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, FL, prior to entering fellowship training in Allergy/Immunology in 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia. After fellowship, Dr. Potter returned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and served as the Division Head of Allergy/Immunology till his retirement in 2018 and transition to private practice with the Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Center in Johnson City, TN. He practiced for 6 years in Johnson City prior to accepting the opportunity to return closer to home and the privilege to serve as the Chief of Allergy/Immunology in the Salisbury VA Health Care System. Dr. Potter’s clinical interests include immunotherapy, asthma and management of NSAID sensitive asthma.

Dr. Potter has been married to his wife, Maria, for 26 years. He and his wife have 4 children. His oldest daughter resides in Alaska, his oldest son in Mississippi, his youngest son attends college in Tennessee. His youngest daughter enrolled in high school and is very active in the acappella and musical theater programs and also attends voice and dance programs locally. Keeping track of his children and visiting them is the primary occupation of Dr. Potter’s free time. Other interests include exercising and just about any activity outdoors.
