Alexander Fender, MD
Dr. Fender was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before obtaining a master’s in biomedical science from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, where he also earned his medical degree. He completed a pediatric residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem, NC. After residency, he remained in Winston Salem and worked in the pediatric emergency department at Brenner Children’s Hospital.
Following this, he decided to pursue a fellowship in Allergy & Immunology at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist while continuing to work part-time in the pediatric emergency department. Dr. Fender is excited to return home to serve the patients of western North Carolina. With his experience in emergency medicine, he quickly builds relationships with his patients. He is passionate about treating the full spectrum of allergies, severe asthma and eczema, and immunodeficiency.
When he is not working, Dr. Fender enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three children. You might find them hiking in the Appalachian Mountains, strolling through local parks, or playing on the tennis court.
