Laurie McWilliams, M.D.
As a child with allergies and asthma, I grew an appreciation for my Allergist. However, it wasn’t until residency at Duke, while taking care of patients with immunodeficiency and food allergy, that I really knew how much I liked the science behind these disorders. This led me to pursue a fellowship in Allergy & Immunology, also at Duke. I chose to complete an extra year of training, exploring the development of allergic disease with a particular interest in the relationship of the micro-biome (good bacteria) with onset of food allergy.
After the completion of fellowship, I took a brief hiatus from a primary role in patient care, and spent 2 years as a Medical Director with GlaxoSmithKline, working with new medications for the treatment of asthma. During this time, I had a part time clinic at Duke University and realized how much I missed patient care. I joined Allergy Partners of the Triangle to get back into full time patient care.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three small children. My children keep me busy but also teach me lessons in patience and understanding. I enjoy yoga and exploring the triangle’s many festivals and restaurants.
