New Year, New Opportunities

Whether you are a Fellow-in-Training or a mid-career physician looking for a change of scenery, the new year is an excellent time for exploration.

At this time of year, many people naturally find themselves reflecting and re-evaluating. Spending time with family and friends, as well as slowing down a bit for the holidays, can spark serious thoughts about one’s time spent outside the clinic.

For Fellows-in-Training, this is a busy time for job interviews and for some, perhaps finalizing agreements for post-Fellowship positions. It’s a time also, when mid-career physicians might begin to think more about their current location, and if it’s indeed where they want to remain for the second half of their professional career.

After some years in practice, physicians may contemplate relocation to meet family goals in addition to professional ones.

  • Proximity to family or social networks
  • Weather
  • Accessibility to favorite recreation, hobbies, sports teams, arts
  • School systems and youth programs for families
  • Cost of living and neighborhoods
  • State income tax
  • Professional environment for spouse or partner
