In 1993 Dr. Gwinn became the first pediatric pulmonologist in the state of South Carolina. Born in Greenville – SC, she lived here until college. After 20 years which included college, medical school, and time in the US Army, Dr. Gwinn decided it was time to practice her specialty in the private sector.
“My husband, Guy Fasciana, is from Pennsylvania so we considered Pennsylvania in addition to Greenville or maybe somewhere in between. Guy reminded me that I always bragged that Greenville has an excellent medical community in addition to the weather being much better than Pennsylvania weather.”
Together, Dr. Gwinn and her husband made a trip to Greenville to check it out. They met with doctors at the Greenville Hospital System and after some deep consideration and several warnings that stated that she would have to work for Dr. Tiller in order to succeed, Dr. Gwinn realized she would have to educate the community on pediatric pulmonology, and that was not going to be easy.
With her husband’s help, they set up a private pediatric pulmonary practice in June 1993. After a slow start, within 6 months she had more than she could handle. She had a very busy inpatient and outpatient practice for over 18 years. Developing a comprehensive Cystic Fibrosis Center approved by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was one of her biggest accomplishments. Now Dr. Gwinn has come full circle and she works in the practice started by Dr. Tom Tiller before it became a part of Allergy Partners. Dr. Gwinn has a small pediatric pulmonary practice and has limited her new practice to asthma, chronic cough, recurrent respiratory infections, and various other disorders such as vocal cord dysfunction.
“I am thoroughly enjoying working with the 3 allergists here at Allergy Partners of the Upstate. Just remember – I am not an allergist; I am a pediatric pulmonologist.”
Dr. Johnstone has been living in the upstate area for over 35 years. Dr. Johnstone, his wife, and three children (two of which are in college) enjoy this area and its residents.
“My initial interest in allergy comes from my own experience with allergies and asthma and the treatments I received growing up in various parts of the country before finally moving here in high school and eventually setting up an allergy practice 20 years ago.”
He believes patient involvement in the determination of a treatment plan is more likely to lead to a positive outcome.
“My philosophy in treating is to try to create a partnership with my patients where we identify the causes of their allergic disease, discuss possible treatment options and then come up with a custom plan of treatment that is both practical for the patient and likely to be effective.”
When not working, Dr. Johnstone enjoys being outdoors playing golf or exercising and spending time with his family.
Dr. Johnstone is a native of South Carolina and Greenville.
“I come from a large family who suffered greatly with allergies growing up. Having seen this first hand, drew my interest to allergies and asthma as a specialty.”
He prides himself and the practice on personalized and compassionate care of the individual patient. His interests include allergy and asthma care as well as evaluation of food allergies.
When Dr. Johnstone is away from the office, he enjoys time with his children and soaking in the sun on the beautiful coast of South Carolina.
Dr. Lantz grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina and earned her degree in Microbiology at Clemson University before attending the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Greenville Hospital System and allergy fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia. She had the opportunity to work with Dr. Tom Tiller and Dr. Trip Johnstone as a medical student and as a resident.
“Coming back to Greenville and to Allergy Partners of the Upstate from my allergy fellowship felt like coming home.”
She is board certified in pediatric and adult allergy and immunology as well as experienced in diagnosing and treating a variety of allergic diseases and primary immunodeficiencies.
Dr. Lantz has been part of the Greenville Community for over twenty years and in her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors with her husband and their two children.

Jenifer has an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University, State College PA, in Health Policy Administration and a Masters of Medical Science from Saint Francis University, Loretto, PA.
