Dr. Shield grew up in Newport News with severe asthma. His experiences with the wonderful doctors and nurses who took great care of him during those difficult times stimulated his interest in medicine, so it was only natural that he chose a career in Allergy and Immunology.
He feels fortunate to have trained with some of the most outstanding allergists in the country. That training, combined with his own personal experiences, gives him the ability to provide a level of care that is difficult to find elsewhere. He is honored to have been named by his peers as a Hampton Roads “Top Doc” in Allergy and Immunology on numerous occasions.
He has been happily married to his wife, Kathy, since 1988. They have four really cool, interesting children, all of whom have allergies! He loves spending time with his family and enjoys the challenge of playing a decent round of golf every once in a while.
Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, Dr. Campbell suffered from seasonal allergies and exercise-induced asthma.
He completed his undergraduate education in Psychology and Neuroscience at Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio and received his M.D. at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio in 2009. Tim completed his Internal Medicine residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio and recently completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology at Cleveland Clinic, where he learned from some of the top contributors to the field.
During his training, Dr. Campbell received honors including induction into Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society and organized and taught a “Film & Medicine” course at his medical school.
“I am excited to engage in a patient-focused practice offering individualized care to help inform, educate and empower patients. My mission is to diagnose and treat allergic disease in children and adults so they can enjoy daily activities without restrictions.”
In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing soccer and watching foreign and independent films.
Dr. Eric Karlin is an allergist/immunologist board-certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. He is a native of South Florida and attended Rollins College for his undergraduate degree in biochemistry. After graduating from medical school at the University of Miami in 2009, he completed his internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University.
After completion of his fellowship, Dr. Karlin practiced as an associate professor in the division of Allergy and Immunology at New York Medical College and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Dr. Karlin joined Allergy Partners of Hampton Roads in 2016.
Having allergies himself, Dr. Karlin has experienced the significant improvement in symptoms that care from an allergist can offer. He is happily married to Dr. Mariel Fosceneau, who practices as a pediatric and adolescent gynecologist in the Hampton Roads area. In their spare time, they enjoy cooking, seeing movies and traveling. They are excited to be making the Peninsula their new home.
Leah Childress is a Nurse Practitioner with over ten years of experience in the nursing field. She began her career in 2009 as a Registered Nurse, first working on a Mother-Baby unit and then a Cardiovascular/Telemetry Unit. After graduating with her Master’s Degree in 2012, she worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at a Primary Care Clinic for seven years. When her two-year-old son had a severe, allergic reaction to cashews, Leah brought him to Allergy Partners of Hampton Roads for treatment, where he was quickly diagnosed with asthma, received expeditious relief from his symptoms, and was put on a long-term care plan.
The quality of care and the experience her family had at Allergy Partners sparked a passion in Leah to learn more about asthma and allergies which eventually drove her to a career change to the field of asthma, allergy, and immunology. As a Nurse Practitioner at Allergy Partners, Leah will draw on the depth, education and experience of the Allergy Partner’s team, and will incorporate patient education and counseling to develop tailored, individual health care plans for her patients while empowering them as equal partners in their own health care.
Ms. Childress lives on the Peninsula with her two boys and her husband. She has a passion for fitness, is an avid runner, and has competed in marathons, triathlons and Spartan races. She is an accomplished photographer, enjoys reading and attending youth sporting events.
