Yesterday I was invited to talk with the teachers and staff at White Creek Lutheran School about food allergy. The parent of a child I recently saw for food allergy had asked about precautions and preparations - this was going to be a new adventure for the family.I thought going to the school would help.As I discovered, this was also a new adventure for the school.
My trip was eventful- the GPS was a bit confused, and my DNA would not allow me to ask for directions- but I got there on time.
My 20-30 minutes went on for about 45 minutes. The group was very receptive and attentive. They asked great questions, including some that I had never heard before as they wanted to do all they could to keep their new student out of harm's way.
I enjoyed talking to the group. I hope it was as rewarding to them as it was to me- I always learn from these presentations.
A reflection- I hope that there will be more opportunities to share information and help schools prepare for the food allergic child.
