Dr. Dillon was first exposed to the allergy field when she worked as a Physician Assistant prior to attending medical school. She really enjoyed the variety of patients she saw in the allergy office and the fact that she could really help people feel better.
“I learned that educating patients about their allergies and asthma was the best way to empower them to take control of their diagnoses.”
These positive experiences stayed with her through her medical training and Dr. Dillon continues to strive to educate and involve her patients in their care. The world of allergy and immunology is an exciting place to practice and she enjoys seeing both adults and children and a wide range of allergic diseases.
Dr. Dillon is originally from Virginia and feels lucky to be able to settle in Charlottesville, a place she came to love during medical school and residency training at the University of Virginia.
When not at work, Dr. Dillon and her husband Patrick, who is an oncologist at UVA, enjoy hiking, biking, or doing anything outdoors, spending time with family, and traveling.
“It is an exciting time to work as a physician in the field of allergy, asthma and immunology. Advances in the past decades have dramatically expanded our understanding of allergic disease and have allowed us to focus on treatment plans to meet the individual needs of our patients.”
Dr. Klaffky became interested in medicine while training in cell biology at the University of Virginia. She wanted to focus on patient centered care, in order to apply research knowledge to help people struggling with allergic disease. Following training, Dr. Klaffky attended medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and returned to Charlottesville for residency training in pediatrics and fellowship training in allergy and immunology.
“I am excited to remain in Charlottesville, joining Dr. Gary Rakes and Dr. Madeline Dillon at our clinics in Charlottesville and Waynesboro to care for patients in our community.”
“It’s great to be an allergy and asthma doctor. I’m always confident I can help my patients improve their quality of life.”
The Charlottesville area is a special place to work, live, and raise a family. Dr. Rakes has lived here for nearly 40 years, including all his professional training at the University of Virginia (undergraduate, medical, pediatric residency, and allergy fellowship).
Dr. Rakes and his wife Beverly married right after they both graduated from UVA, and they have three adult children and one grandson.
He enjoys family time, hiking, dog walking, biking, disc golf, all things computer and technology, and fixing things that are broken.
